How to rank social media posts in Google Search WITHOUT Website Authority
Google Search Console just started showing traffic to social media channels, and this changes everything for SEO.
Here’s what’s happening: Google is now indexing social media posts from Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, and more in search results. And here’s the kicker – it’s way easier to rank a social media post for competitive terms than it is to rank your own website, especially if you’re a smaller brand.
This is sometimes called “Parasite SEO” and it’s incredibly effective right now. Almost nobody is optimizing their social posts for Google search, so there’s a massive opportunity.
The strategy is simple: put your target keyword at the front of your title or caption. We’ve been testing this with clients and it’s surprising how often we can hit page one for competitive terms – even with channels that have almost no following.
Now that Search Console is giving us actual data on what people search before finding our social posts, we can finally optimize properly. Right now, Google has to identify the relationship between your social channels and website, but it looks like we’ll eventually be able to link them ourselves.
If you’re doing SEO in 2024, you need to start thinking about your social media posts as search-optimized content.
